Vinpocetine

PhysioLogics was the first to offer vinpocetine in the United States. Vinpocetine is a derivative of vincamine, extracted from the seeds of the periwinkle plant. Hundreds of scientific studies have been conducted in Europe examining the effects of vinpocetine on the body. Recently, in the United States, scientists have begun to explore the powerful effects of this nutrient. Studies show that vinpocetine can enhance circulation by promoting healthy, open blood vessels, and that vinpocetine's effect may be particularly beneficial for invigorating cerebral metabolism.

One double-blind placebo controlled study, reported in Human Psychopharmacology, found that those participants given vinpocetine showed significant improvement in attention and memory performance. The vinpocetine group also demonstrated a healthier mood when compared with placebo groups.

Research suggests that vinpocetine increases both brain cell ATP production and the level of glucose and oxygen uptake in the brain.
