HFCS Propaganda

Thursday, March 19

The Corn Refiners Association is distributing propaganda on high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) to health professionals claiming the negative press surrounding the sweetener lacks scientific merit and that HFCS is much the same as sucrose (table sugar).

Well, nobody said table sugar is good for you.  Remember, sugar is an anti-nutrient.  Its metabolism demands the burning up of micronutrients in the body such as B vitamins.  Fructose malabsorption is a common cause of gastrointestinal symptoms that mimic irritable bowel syndrome.

As Alan Gaby so eloquently stated in the April issue of the Townsend Letter:

“Fructose is the most powerful reducing sugar of all the edible sugars.  Reducing sugars promote the glycosylation of tissue proteins, which is a factor both in the complications of diabetes and in the aging process.”

This is indeed a physiological stressor on the body.  As humans, we are not genetically hardwired to handle as much fructose as consumed on the SAD (Standard American Diet).  Our consumption of added sugars is implicated in the development and prevalence of our chronic diseases: obesity, diabetes and heart disease.

And remember, cancer LOVES sugar.
