Foundation Formula
by Ronald Hoffman, M.D., CNS Foundation Formula has everything a high quality multi should have - broad-based antioxidant protection, rich fortification with B vitamins, ample vitamin C and calcium, generous amonts of minerals including GTF Chromium, even lesser-known but important extras like vanadium, betaine, molybdenum and boron. Its vitamin A is provided at safe levels and includes mixed carotenoids, now felt to be superior to beta-carotene. Foundation Formula provides an all-inclusive base from which to step up to other key elements of the program. Two tablets contain: Vitamin A (acetate and mixed carotenoids) 2,500 IU Vitamin C 250 mg Vitamin D 200 IU Vitamin E (acetate and mixed tocopherols) 100 IU Thiamin (B-1 as mononitrate) 25 mg Riboflavin (B-2) 25 mg Niacin (niacin & 50% niacinamide) 25 mg Vitamin B6 (hydrochloride) 25 mg Folic Acid 200 mcg Vitamin B12 25 mcg Biotin 150 mcg Pantothenic Acid (d-calcium pantothenate) 25 mg Calcium (citrate) 250 mg Magnesium (oxide) 200 mg Zinc (gluconate) 15 mg Selenium (sodium selenite) 100 mcg Copper (AAC) 1 mg Manganese (sulfate) 2 mg Chromium (chloride) 100 mcg Molybedenum (AAC) 50 mcg Potassium (chloride) 50 mg Betaine (hydrochloride) 12.5 mg Choline Bitartrate 25 mg Citrus Bioflavonoid 50 mg Inositol 25 mg Para-Aminobenzoic Acid (PABA) 25 mg Boron (AAC) 750 mcg Silicon (silica) 8 mg Vanadium (AAC) 30 mcg Mixed Tocopherols 100 mg (D-gamma 66%, D-delta 20%, D-alpha 12% and D-beta 2%) Tocotrienol Blend 7.5% 50 mg (tocotrienols 6% and D-alpha tocopherol 1.5%)
Suggested use: As a dietary supplment, adults take two tablets twice daily or as directed by a physician. Why has Dr. Hoffman reformulated his popular multivitamin, Foundation Formula? Many of you recall the recent vitamin E "scare" in which it was alleged that vitamin E was harmful. While it can be demonstrated that many of the analyses faulting vitamin E were based on selective culling of data from negative studies, and that these data are hardly applicable to prevention in healthy persons, faith in the benefits of vitamin E was undermined. That's why Dr. Hoffman undertook a reformulation of Foundation Formula, his basic multi. He upgraded the E in the new Foundation Formula to the highest quality natural mixed tocopherols, rich in heart-healthy gamma tocopherol. It is now believed by many researchers that unless alpha tocopherol is complemented by gamma tocopherol, much of the cancer and cardiovascular preventive potential of vitamin E cannot be fully realized. Moreover, the daily dose of E delivered by Foundation Formula is 200 International Units, safely below the threshold of the upper limits of Vitamin E that resulted in harm in any of the negative studies. Additionally, Dr. Hoffman went beyond E in reformulating Foundation Formula, incorporating generous amounts of tocotrienols, vitamin E's natural partner. Tocotrienols are ideal accompaniments to vitamin E. Like vitamin E, tocotrienols are potent antioxidants that combat lipid peroxidation (the damaging of fats by free radicals). Human studies indicate that, in addition to their antioxidant activity, tocotrienols have other important functions, especially in maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system. Test tube and animal studies indicate a possible role for tocotrienols in protecting against cancer (particularly breast and skin cancer). In one study in patients with severe atherosclerosis of the carotid artery--the main artery supplying blood to the brain--tocotrienol administration (200 mg per day) reduced the level of lipid peroxides in the blood. Moreover, in patients receiving tocotrienols for 12 months, the size of atherosclerotic plaques became smaller. Recent studies have shown that tocotrienols exert an even more protective effect than Vitamin E on the linings of arteries.
It is with these latest research findings in mind that Dr. Hoffman presents this new and improved version of his popular multi-vitamin, Foundation Formula.
